Key Points

  • Industry pressure mounts for executives to integrate AI, with leaders like Shopify advocating for its use to drive revenue and efficiency.

  • Aviv Frenkel, CEO of Moonshot AI discusses how generative AI solutions have increased revenue for brands by focusing on scalable customer segmentation.

For years, conversion rate optimization has felt a bit like voodoo—you're constantly guessing, never truly knowing what will move the needle.

Turning visitors into customers is e-commerce’s holy grail, but getting there is a costly maze of guesswork, A/B tests, and dead ends. Teams burn hours analyzing heatmaps and recordings, often with little to show for it. The cycle is slow, expensive, and still the norm.

Aviv Frenkel, PhD, is the Co-Founder and CEO of Moonshot AI, a company using generative AI to optimize e-commerce sites. He breaks down why traditional CRO is broken and what the rise of AI agents really means for the future of online shopping.

"For years, conversion rate optimization has felt a bit like voodoo—you're constantly guessing, never truly knowing what will move the needle," says Frenkel. "Moonshot AI is built to take all that guesswork out of the equation, using generative AI to autonomously find what works and implement it."

CRO or sorcery?: "For years, conversion rate optimization has felt a bit like voodoo," says Frenkel. "You're constantly guessing, never truly knowing what will move the needle." Traditional CRO, he explains, is riddled with uncertainty, and overhead. Even a single test requires developers, designers, analysts, and a stack of tools just to get off the ground. "You need a big team," he says. "You guess, invest time and resources, and still might end up with nothing that works."

Moonshot AI cuts out the complexity. "You just integrate our platform," says Frenkel. "It scans the site, finds conversion gaps, generates test variants—design, code, copy—runs the test, and ships the winner. All with a few clicks." No massive team, no tool sprawl. "It’s a single tool that tells you what’s broken, how to fix it, and fixes it for you."

Bots, buyers, and beyond: AI is reshaping commerce, from product discovery to who’s actually visiting a site. "A lot of a website's traffic comes from bots," says Frenkel. "Moonshot optimizes for that too—we can see if it’s a ChatGPT crawler or another bot." With a front row seat to these changes, Moonshot is already helping retailer brands speak the LLM language and optimize their sites for agents.

As for the idea that AI agents will replace e-commerce entirely? Frenkel’s not buying it. "Video didn’t kill radio. Retail didn’t vanish with e-commerce. Shops won’t disappear with AI either—it’s just another option." The future, he says, isn’t replacement. It’s expansion. "The shopping experience will evolve. More options will be on the table."

Boardroom pressure’s on: For C-suite execs still hesitating on AI, Frenkel cuts to the chase: "The biggest benefit is doing more in less time, and showing real results with a fraction of the effort." And it’s no longer optional. "It’s not a matter of if," he says. "Boards want to know: How are you using GenAI to drive revenue or reduce costs?" He points to Shopify’s CEO urging teams to use AI before making new hires as a signal the mandate is industry-wide.

Show us the money: Moonshot AI is driving real results across fashion, beauty, electronics, and more. "We’ve generated millions in additional revenue for our brands through generative AI changes," says Frenkel. And while personalization may be a buzzword, Frenkel keeps it practical: "We don’t care about the actual person, we care if they’re on desktop or mobile, where they’re from, whether they’re a first-time or returning visitor." It’s segmentation built to scale, and as he puts it, "that’s where the world is going."

Seeing is believing: GTM playbooks may keep changing, but one thing still cuts through: the product itself. "First, build a great product. Once people see the demo, that’s all it takes," says Frenkel. "It’s a product. You need to see it to believe it works."
